In Solidarity with DFA

ASTFA supporting DFA

Alyda Faber (ASTFA) expressing support to David Westwood (DFA) on the picket lines in August 2025

Dear David Westwood, President, and Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) members,

Your job action feels very close to home for members of the Atlantic School of Theology Faculty Association (ASTFA) not only because of geographical proximity but also because of the excellent counsel we had from Jack Brown during our recent negotiations, and because we have friends and colleagues in DFA. Even from the outside looking in, it has been a wild ride from conciliation to lockout to defensive strike action.

Please find enclosed a cheque in the amount of $111.00 as an expression of the 11 members of ASTFA standing in solidarity with the DFA during your strike. We’ve also had members join you on the picket lines and at the rally last Friday and will continue this support as long as the strike lasts.

Know that we stand in solidarity with your efforts, in your negotiations and in the conciliation process, to support early career faculty, untenured and precarious faculty and instructors for whom wage increases commensurate with the cost of living are critical for them to be able to afford to live in HRM, and your fight to have Dalhousie University prioritize academic staff and mission in their budgeting decisions. We share with you the sense of the critical importance of working toward more collegial governance that these issues represent.

Sincerely yours,
Alyda Faber, ASTFA President
